هذه تعابير عامية في اللغة الإنجليزية
أكيد لما تقعدوا تشاهدوا فلم او مسلسل أمريكي بالذات تلاحظوا بعض التعابير .. اللي يستخدمها الأمريكيون خاصة السود هذه التعابيرلها قاموس خاص بها وتسمى ( AMERICAN SLANG) وهذي بعض التعابير ومايقابلها في اللغة الإنجليزية الأم AMERICAN SLANG Hello Hi Hey there! Hi there! Hey! How are you? What's new? How are you doing? How's it going? Goodbye See you See you later Later on the telephone, you can say "Talk to you later" Yes Yeah (pronounced ya) Yup Sure You bet No Nope No way Not a chance Not in this lifetime Let's leave Let's blow this popstand I'm leaving I'm out of here I'm heading out now Other Stuff Instead of VERY, you can use ... so -I'm so hungry! real -I'm real hungry! really -I'm really hungry! Instead of VERY VERY, you can use ... totally -The movie was totally awesome! He's really hungover! loaded -rich Many people who live in Beverly Hills are loaded nuts (or nutty) -crazy That lady keeps talking to herself. Do you think she's nuts? on cloud nine -very very happy Chris just won a million dollars so he's on cloud nine! super -great Tom is a super singer ticked -angry He's really ticked because his friend had a party but didn't invite him upbeat -positive Theresa is very upbeat American Slang Verbs ace -to finish something easily, with success Tammy aced her math test! boogie -to dance Rick likes to boogie for hours! check out -to look at, watch, examine We're going to check out that new movie tomorrow after work. chicken out -to lose the courage to do something Mary was planning to enter the car race but then she chickened out. gab -to chat Amy likes to gab on the phone with her best friend. grab a bite to eat -to go out to a restaurant I'm hungry. Let's grab a bite to eat somewhere. kick the bucket -to die John's neighbor just kicked the bucket! lift -to steal While Bob was on the train, someone lifted his wallet. take off -to leave Ann took off before the meeting was announced. snooze -to sleep I snoozed on the bus for a few minutes this morning! whine -to complain I wouldn't want to work with Chris because he always whines about everything! The IDIOM of the Week ... Every week we have a new American Idiom = an idiom that is common in American English! This Week's Idiom is ... He who laughs last longest! = the person who plays the last joke (trick) has the longest laugh! Bob made fun of Lou's pronunciation but the next day, Lou put a toy snake on Bob's chair. Bob thought it was real and screamed when he sat on it. Lou thought it was really funny. He who laughs last laughs longest!!! Previous Idioms of the Week to lend a hand = to help The Smiths' neighbors lent a hand when they were building their new fence (The neighbors helped them build the new fence). in hot water = in trouble Bob didn't do his homework, so he's going to be/get in hot water! (from the teacher) Put your money where your mouth is! = If you believe that what you are saying is true/right, let's bet on it! Like mother, like daughter Like father, like son (this refers to the personality) That takes the cake! = That's unbelievable/incredible/ridiculous! Not playing with a full deck = crazy That guy always talks and shouts to himself. He's not playing with a full deck! Put a lid on it! = Be quiet!!! Two heads are better than one! = Two people who work together will have more ideas than just one person! TO LOSE YOUR SHIRT = to lose all of or most of your money I lost my shirt at the casino! Joe lost his shirt betting on the horses TO LOSE TOUCH = to fail to keep in contact/communication with someone After I graduated from university, I lost touch with most of my classmates PAINT THE TOWN (RED) After the exam, let's go out and paint the town! = Let's go out and enjoy the exciting entertainment of the city! A picture is worth a thousand words! = A picture explains things better than words can explain things Let's get the ball rolling! = Let's start now! (usually said about an important project) I HEAR YOU! = I agree with what you are saying! YOU BET! = Yes, sure, of course! ONCE IN A BLUE MOON = Once in a while, occasionally I go swimming outside once in a blue moon.
